Program Notes
A few weeks after I started school at USC, my appendix ruptured, and I spent a week in the hospital in downtown Los Angeles. Soon after, I wrote Exuberant Turns for string quartet as a visceral, slightly melancholy, but ultimately optimistic way of coping with that experience. I transcribed the piece for saxophone quartet in the summer of 2014, and it was premiered by the Donald Sinta Quartet in Ann Arbor, MI in December 2014. |
